March 2005: the build-up

A week or two before

A Doctor Who trailer!  It must actually be going to happen.  Nice looking TARDIS. Billie Piper looks promising.  Slightly worried about new Doctor. He was OK until he opened his mouth.

Last day at work before closing for Easter.  Try to persuade eminent Professor of Medieval History that he should try watching Doctor Who, as a change from Desperate Housewives. Not much success, though he is amused at the idea of killer wheelie bins.

Drive down to Sussex for Easter weekend, praying that television in hotel room works (it does), and that series isn’t going to be a huge disappointment.  Still, have seen Mine all Mine, which was brilliant, and a bit of Casanova which was also brilliant, apart from David Tennant’s estuary accent.

Watch Christopher Eccleston on Jonathan Ross. He might be OK as the Doctor, but I doubt if he is going to be comfortable with going to conventions.

Wander round Rye, visiting locations from the Mapp and Lucia books. Am entirely focussed on the works of E F Benson.  Try to persuade husband that The English Way of Death is clearly a pastiche of Mapp and Lucia.

Return to hotel and sit through Strictly Graham Norton or whatever.  Why do all the dances look the same?

At last!!!!  What have they done to the theme tune?
