February 2006: an anniversary

February 2006

The weekend of our 15th  wedding anniversary, and guess where we went to celebrate? Rome, where we spent our honeymoon?

With the Doctor Who: Up Close exhibition in its last week (allegedly)? No chance. We went to Cardiff.  The entrance to the exhibition was guarded by the Trinny and Susannah robots from Bad Wolf. Some wag had defaced the noticeboard at the entrance, so that it read ‘Mad in Wales’ instead of ‘Made in Wales’. Or at least I assume they had. With Russell T Davies you cannot be too sure.

The visitors’ book was quite entertaining.  We noted that a  Mr Baker (no relation, we think) had brought his small son Tom along.

Escaping the obligatory merchandising opportunity with our funds intact, we walked down towards the Millennium Centre, to see the spot where the TARDIS was parked in Boom Town. We walked a little further to the bay, which was full of restaurants.  We were fairly sure that one of them was the one where the Doctor took Margaret Slitheen to dinner, but couldn’t work out which one. However we decided that the menu on display at one of them looked most enticing, so decided to return there later for dinner.

I though that the decor looked familiar, but it was not until we got home and played the DVD that we were sure.  I think we were even sitting in pretty much the right place.  The food was good, too.
